Who remembers the Honda CB400 FOUR?

Post by sirch345 »

I used to own one of these Honda CB400Four's. Of course mine was in Red :D

I see they are still available:-

My first experience of motorcycling was riding pillion on a mate's 400 Four. Having a big bore 460 kit made it a real flier in it's day.

My mate just sold two ! One was mint with only 1k miles from new and the other looked like it was at a bottom of a river for years !
He won't tell me how much he got but he is still smiling

Nice to see the replication of parts to keep these old girls on the road, I think it's great to see a bike 'saved' rather than broken up for spares.

I had a CB550four with a 4 into 1 upswept exhaust and clipon bars. My first bike bike :)

I would love a cb400 four all day long!! The classic I would have would be a rd400.!!

I think they have the right mix of charm, fun/ excitement without losing licence. Also can't beat the smell of castrol!!

I had one as well, in black.
Too heavy to be too much fun, but in their day quite a quick bike.
First bike I could do clutch dump burnouts on, if you parked it against a wall.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Had a 750 K2 as my first "big" bike. First bone I ever broke in my life (neck of the femur) was when I "parked" it at 30 miles an hour into the rear axle of the car that cut me up and turned right in front of me. Apparently a man can fly.........
Ahh, happy memories.........

Yeah that front disc was SCARY!! The caliper mounted infront of the fork leg onto a solid disc about 15mm thick! The rear drum was either on or off and would lock the rear wheel at a whiff of right foot!

But I forgive all that for the screaming howl of that smelly, hot aircooled il4 propelling me down the A12 at what felt like warp speed!

My 400 FOUR was the first bike I had with a disc brake. I didn't know back then you needed to apply the front brake a few seconds before you wanted it in the rain  with it being a solid disc. I almost ran into the back of my brothers Suzuki GT250 ram air, how I didn't was pure luck.

I wonder what I would think of it now. Reg No. was OAF 495R

Ha quality. My first bike (Suzuki GP100) turned yellow and grew 25cc after I sold it then disappeared shortly after. One of my LC's turned black, grew 100cc then went off the record again shortly after it left my ownership. Racking my brains for the Reg for my FZRs - going to look up another LC I just remembered....

Found it - was still a 250 and still white when it went into the darkness in 2001 - love this site, good shout Duffy!
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Cheers Duffy for the thought and the link, but I have looked for it there before.

It looks like she was no more after 01/12/1987 :(
