Hmm, Lumpyv let me see if I've got any photos or details... strange I can remember most the reg plates on my past 20 something bikes, but not the CB550!

When did you sell it?

Cheers Duffy for the thought and the link, but I have looked for it there before.

It looks like she was no more after 01/12/1987 :(

Date of Liability 01 12 1987

Chris.
It still may be a box of bits somewhere Chris.

I got a BSA Bantam in bits this year to build a Trials bike and found an old buff log book, checked DVLA site and was last on road in 1987.

I applied for log book and got it sent as new owner on a 1959 bike that had had 6 owners on the old log book, but now I am the 2nd owner with previous owner as the 1st owner

It also original with matching engine & frame number with a 3 number & 3 letter plate, just gotta build it now

Duffy, that's very good point re: box of bits somewhere.

Interesting to hear about your BSA Bantam, as I had two of them when I was a teenager, although mine were not the trials version. The first one I had was a 1968 model D14/4 (if you don't already know the 4 stood for four gears, a big move up from the three speed box. Hard to imagine how on earth we managed back then  now five and six speed gearboxes are the norm). The second one was a 1959 model 175 IIRC a D7. Also Interesting to hear how you got on with the old style log-book at the DVLA, I always wondered how that would work.

My first Bantam is still listed on DVLA site (as below) but the second one (Reg No. MAF 590) isn't.

That's interesting, I bought mine in 2006, was it black with gold pinstripes around the tank and side covers? I can't find any photos of my baby :(

Chris mine is a D7 but if I can find a good D14 4 speed I will fit that as gives me more scope on the gearing
