Yup sounds like you've got a slight prob there. Nothing hard to rectify. The brakes on mine are strong enough to stand the bike on its nose. Normal riding, even pushing it at times, only requires on digit on the lever. Two at most.

Brakes are best not skimped on. I change the fluid in the whole system every 2 years. The factory lines last 5 maybe 6 years max. All the little things add up over a period of time. So maybe the last owner was used to the brakes being a bit spongy as they got worse slowly.

Have fun with it anyway.

Teaching granny to suck eggs is an art form long forgotten, in fact very few these days know how to suck eggs..........so for you young un's here is how to suck eggs part one.
First grab a granny, teeth not required, then take one egg the bigger the better. With a large needle prick the top of the egg, them prick a hole in the bottom of the egg, place egg on mouth of granney and tell her to suck, NOT BLOW, of course the egg must be raw.
it may be clever, but its not big.

WOOHOO!!! SUCCESS!

Well after all my bleedin' woes, I finally managed to get the brakes sorted out last night - I got myself a thin peice of clear plastic tubig that fitted very tightly onto the syringe I bought - I then attached that to the tubing I was using before which was slightly larger diameter - this gave a good fit onto bleed nipple. Then a rubber band to hold the brake lever in, so the cylinder coud refill. Then I just sucked till I could suck no more (with the syinge) and eventually the fluid started trickling in.... Eventually there was a decent flow of brake fluid and then I just bled them as normal! I was so happy I even changed the clutch fluid too!! Hehe... Havent gotten round to testing the bike on the road yet but hopefully this weekend!

Many thanks to all for suggestions!

I have just done mine. Pistons out cleaned put back in, calipers cleaned up out with the old fluid and in with the new. Bleed the system. All in all took me 2 hours from start to finish with a cup of tea and a smoke.
Took the lever off and carefully pushed the plunger all the way in the cylinder. Goes in about 3 times as far as the lever. 4 to 5 pumps and you empty the res into the lines and calipers.
:D :D :D :D

Put braided hoses on at the weekend, just wanted to say a big thank you to Ben for the tip, job was easy and bleeding took no time at all. Made a huge difference, doing the job.. highly recommend it! (plus my calipers look shiny and new now!)

Yea cheers Ben!

Hush - how do you find the brakes now? Mine are definitely better but not quite as good what I expected - I think maybe I need to give the calipers a good clean now...

Massive improvement, have had to change my sensitivity, particularly while blipping the throttle and braking. When the calipers were off i spent 1.5hours cleaning them up, quite a bit of dirt round the pistons etc so maybe thats the key! They look nice now thats its done too!

I also put on some EBC HH pads, so that could be it... let me know how you get on.
