Loose chain leads to crash
Didn't believe the description myself until it shows the slow-mo about half way through, you can see the chain is off the bike before he crashes....

Re: Loose chain leads to crash
Just shows regular maintenance and upkeep is a must that chain must have been slapping around if it was loose enough to come off the sprocket
Re: Loose chain leads to crash
Lack of Ten minutes maintainance just cost him a wad of money. Muppet

I am so sick of seeing the corning in the US, must be the only corner they have.

They love t don't they. Half of them are asking for trouble just from showing off.I am so sick of seeing the corning in the US, must be the only corner they have
That bike didn't seem right when it went around the first bend. It seemed to have no oomph and didn't exactly power on out through the corner. I'm surprised the rider did not notice, feel or even hear anything wrong a bit sooner.

the comments on youtube say there was 5 inches of slack on the chain ??
I,d say hes lucky he wasn't going quick or did,nt end up under a car.

His next bike will hopefully be a shaftie.
Odd as realises he's lost power (I wonder if he had an inkling of the cause) when he sticks his hand up and is coasting then the rear doesn't appear to lock up but it kicks him off.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I agree with everything ... remember seeing a US safety video on
bald/ worn tyres on motor cycles and safety checks paramount.
They must not be as bothered about life preservation over there.

Re: Loose chain leads to crash
Yep, seems like he knew something was wrong, put his hand up... then in the free coasting panic, grabbed a bit too much rear brake.
It all happens fast when things go wrong.
Poor guy, it dumped him fast.... and worse, in full view of others.
Sometimes when you have these silly moments, you're just glad no one saw them.
Watch the video again, you can actually hear the chain let go and hit the road, then hear it as it scraps along the road, thats when he puts his hand up..... With no engine braking to slow the rear brake force... it was an instant lock up. All in a heart beat.

I think they need an mot in the USA
Re: Loose chain leads to crash
I think your right Lloyd. I will never forget a picture of a car going down the highway that my mate photographed in San Diego years ago. It seriously looked like it had been lifted of the top of a pile of cars on a scrap heap waiting to be crushed. A total rust bucket with panels hanging off, missing windows and stuff
I wouldn't even dream of driving a car at speed in those conditions, it's like scrapheap challenge.
I find it kind of strange that they don't require a vehicle to be in a fit state for the road over there. If not for the drivers/riders safety then at least for others.

I know someone who went to US and saw a sports bike rear tyre all the way down to the carcasson the ccentre strip. Would have only taken a stone to have punctured it !!
