Chain or Chain and sprockets?

Post by Watty »

The chain on my bike has a major tight/slack spot on it! As in when adjusted enough on the slack part to clear the link pipe its almost too tight when it comes round to the tight part! The sprockets are basically as new, so, will i get away with just replacing chain or should i replace the lot? My heart is saying replace all but my wallet/greediness is saying chain only :? . Thoughts and opinions please

do them as a set that way you know the age and condition and they will wear in together .
replacing just one will increase the wear and reduce the life span .

just piggy backing on this thread, has anyone tried one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VTR1000F-Fire ... 1e79f34213
renthal R4SRS chain, not cheap, but I'd like top quality. I'm going to be boring and go for standard gearing....

I nearly went for the R4SRS, not a huge ammount of info on them tbh.

I don't think it's worth paying out for a lighter race chain if you're using it on the road. It will be lighter, but you won't feel the difference and it'll wear quicker than a heavier one.

The Tsubaki Alpha is pretty decent imo. This is the race gearing, but if you do a bit more searching you should find standard.

Chain wear is all down to maintenance & attention to detail, during cleaning & lubing.
