which cct?

Post by dansrockin »

hi all, im going to change the ccts on my bike after reading all the info i can, but cant decide which way to go.
so ive set up a poll to see which seems to be the most effective swap. am i better to stick to honda ones and just be careful, go for the stopper mod, or go all the way and put in manual tensioners?
ive seen positives and negatives for all versions, so which is your preferred method and why?
cheers

i prefer the manuals. Why? Well, I was told to by various sages on here, and also got me to get my hands dirty with the bike

All I can say is the consensus is not to keep the automatic tensioners at all, irrespective of original or replacement, whether stopper or manual???? If you've got a black bike I reckon the red manuals (krieger ones???) add a nice touch.

Bazza or Krieger Manuals > http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 16&t=22720

Pros: They prevent your engine grenading into an expensive mess. DIY fitted in a few hours using guide. No special tools required.

Cons: Non really
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

thanks all, so do the tensioners not need the spring in there to take up some of the chain movement? im sure i read either on here or elsewhere that it was needed and could cause failure of the chain if it wasnt?
also there seems to be an issue with some manual ccts unwinding themselves with vibration and causing the problem they are supposed to stop?
sorry if im being a bit dense 8O  but i just want to make sure i do it right first time round!!
thanks again!

No spring. No it won't cause the chain to fail (if you tension it correctly)
Had mine in 6 years - never unwound themselves, or leaked.
Needed adjustment once in all that time

Beware the cam cover pillar bolts - they do not need very much tightening at all and a heavy hand will shear them off.

I think that's caused by fitting them correctly, when they back out? And yes, it does cause a slight problem

If you follow CyberCarls' guide you should be fine, however

Don't you mean NOT fitting them correctly?

Stopper every time.

The spring loaded compensation that Honda planned, and the failsafe back up if/when it fails

And it's free

I've come around to the stopper mod and will be doing it on the track engine tho I have manuals on the road bike .
