Gear change Indicator

Just wondering if any of you have or have seen the manual/magnetic gear indicator. Seen them on Egay for £15. ? The worst part will be mounting the magnets near the gearshift arm, but in my case I think I could fabricate a bracket off the Pyramid lower fairing bracket.

Ive never understood the point of them, I lnow full well when im revving the baldrocks out of it lol

I think given an engine tone on my bike I could guess rpm relatively accurately too

They're useful to stop you from keep trying to find seventh.

And cheaper than a seven-speed gearbox.
Even a home-made one.

Nah, one of the things that show you what gear you're in.

I still try for seventh every so often, as it might be available after I've got to the next level, like a hidden feature, or summat.

You serious, first in a turn?
I couldn't, even when running lower gearing, ever use first in a turn except maybe a feet-up u turn in a narrow road.......even then it's into second as soon as you exit, and up with the front wheel!

I hate trying to get into 7th, when your going fast and you pull the clutch lever and there is no more gears, I hate releasing the clutch- not a good feeling!

Yeah, 7th gear on the storm is pretty unimpressive

Not sure you understood me, after riding in higher gears, you arrive at a slower corner, and a quick glance at a gear position indicator will remind you of what gear your in, hence avoiding dropping into first by mistake.

Yeah as much as getting the back end out on entry to corners looks cool, im not ballsy enough to try it lol

The cheap magnet ones are useless. I have one in the garage somewhere which I was going to fit to the TDM, but the wiring wasn't much simpler than fitting a proper Datatool type one such as I have on the VTR.

I fitted the one to the Storm years ago, as I was fed up with looking for 7th and also once I thought I was in third approaching a bend near Finchingfield and dropped down a gear; I was in second and my mate on his CBR600RR behind had to do some pretty quick braking!

My advice would be to forget the cheap magnet jobby and get a proper one. You have to solder the wire in behind the speedo, but it's all explained in the instructions

That's exactly it, it saves you from locking the back wheel up as in slowing for a roundabout by not going into first gear by mistake, and it stops you from looking for seventh gear as others have said. Mine is an Acumen, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for IMHO.
