Clutch or not!!

Post by Watty »

Who uses the clutch on up shifts? Once I get beyond 2nd gear and certainly after 3rd gear I never or very rarely use the clutch! Especially when getting a move on 8O ,Never have! Obviously always use it on down shifts  . What's everyone else's take on this?

Well, I can do like 20 in second if I rev it to the redline

If I'm feeling adventurous I'll stick in neutral and find a slope or something. :D

Nah, I'm joking. I've never really done clutchless upshifts, I always use the clutch. I think I'll keep it that way, whenever I pull the clutch in at above 5k rpm ( with the debaffled exhausts, courtesy of Lloyd ) it just gives a nice, loud POP. It's totally worth it
And to be honest, it's not even like you have to hold the clutch in for long. I put pressure on the gear lever, pull the clutch in, shift up and just let go

Never use it between pulling away and coming to a stop. Don't see the point, just be good at judging throttle.

I am sure we had this thread already or am I just getting old and senile (er)

Dirt bikes (enduro not trials)I go up and down the box clutch less, but on the storm only up shifts and only when I am ragging the butt off it.

Yeah this is a repeat topic.. dirt bikes are definitely better without the clutch!

If I remember... I up shift without clutch, but not very often.

I always use it. Just force of habit I suppose. But then again in say that and then think that when going up the gears sometimes I barely pull of the clutch lever and I move up the gears  I always go to pull the clutch lever I should say.

I occasionally use it on up shifts, but it's about 50 50 on down shifts depending on how I'm riding at the time!

Not if you get the revs correct it's smoother than using the clutch!

I use the clutch to pull away and then from 1st-2nd then clutch less up through to 6th and I always use the clutch on down shifts unless it has a slipper clutch.

I thought the same Al. I thought it was more recent than this, but bigtwinthing brought the subject up here:-
http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 9&start=15

I have tried it on the up changes, but generally going on I do use the clutch.
