Makes you think there was a rock up in releasing the bike without the damper fitted.

Re: BMW R1200GS
I don't think there will ever be an admission of guilt from BMW, It's very sad what happened but there were no clear witnesses and it was on a gravel road, although the GS is an off road style bike it has road biased tyres, anyone who has ridden off road knows that lock ups and weaves can happen on loose ground, he was a very experienced rider and not prone to making mistakes but It can happen to the best. It's a warning to us all that the unexpected can happen no matter how good you are or think you are.. In saying that I'm not suggesting It was Kevin's Fault at all As the only person who knows that Isn't here to answer. If it's ever found out that the bike was at fault I hope that his family get everything they can out of BMW, but the one thing they'd really want BMW can not ever give them back.

How strange, I only ever associate slappers with fast front ends on quick bikes (and Saturday nights in town)

isn't it - morphing into something that wouldn't look out of place in Alien.
I echo what popkat has said, and hope that machine/design fault had no part to play. What we choose to do is full of peril at the best of times compared to what most people do, and we have to have 100% trust in our machines and ourselves
