Irish and UK car drivers question

Post by pmcq »

Seeing as I am in rant-mode I have another thing to get off my chest... :-) It appears to me that people in Ireland do not seem to know what the heck the two lanes of a dual carraigeway/motorway are for - Even on a pretty much empty road, I am seeing more and more of these guys sitting in the fast lane... you come up behind them - count to 10 and still they do not move! So
I then have to undertake (while shaking head of course :-) ) and look in my mirror and they move in!!! I am a car driver too but i always make a point of moving back in when I can! Does this go for British car drivers too?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Mate you need a drink! But to answer your question yes they do that over here. They move over because they realise that they are being an arsehole. That's what i love about riding a bike, you always get the last word. if you give them the bird or just shale your head, they are behind you and are history.

AAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

.....now u've got me in rant mode.....

.....too many people call the OVERTAKING or OUTSIDE lane the 'fast' lane.....hence when they think 8O they are going fast 8O they move into that lane...!! we (as other road users) should treat these people with great care, especially as they seem to think they are going so fast 8O no one can catch them!!

One of the things that annoys me is the use of the term "undertaking" to describe overtaking on the nearside.

An undertaker is a person who arranges funerals.

Definitely a world-wide problem, that one. I like to sit up close behind them for a bit & if they don't move over, zip around them quick as a blink & then sit nice & slowly in front of them. Then when they finally get sick of it & change lanes, give them a nice friendly wave & hoon off. Lets them know they might be bigger, but they aint in charge 8) .
If you ate yourself would you become twice as big or simply disappear?

So what happens if you're cruising along in the left (slow) lane with nothing in front for miles and you eventually come upon a car in the right (fast) lane. Are you supposed to change lanes and sit behind this idiot until he wakes up and takes his hand off his Richard and moves over? Or can you continue to cruise along in the left lane?

...according to the UK highway code YES you are breaking the law by overtaking on the inside!! 8O though in the US some local areas have legalised 'undertaking' 8O

but aren't the 'hogs' breaking the law too.....by staying out there in the first place???

 ...and 2 wrongs make a right, Kaz..???

an agressive  and asertive  bike instructor once told me.."the only time you should be in the 'overtaking'/right lane is to overtake or preparing to turn right & the only time the highway code justifies 'undertaking' is when you are passing someone turning right  ....so if you come up behind someone in the outside lane :( and they are not overtaking  they must be preparing to turn right therefore you are justified in passing on the inside :P !!

this would apply to dual carriageways (where there are exits to the right) in the uk but not on the motorways  !!
