Running out of fuel.

Post by leevtr »

Question. Anyone here ran out of fuel on their storm ?? If so, did you actually run the tank down to completely empty, and get a full 16/19 litres in it when refilling. My bike started coughing and sluttering today, and although I knew it was close, the fuel light hadn't come on. Limped into a petrol station, only squeezed 17.5 litres into the tank. Ran fine after that, as it had up till then, so pretty sure low fuel was the cause. Dont know if I have an iffy sender unit ( not my original one, but another 16 litre tank sender that was donated from a member here ) or they dont work the same with the bigger tank.

I think there is always a litre left in the bottom of the thank that can't be reached but that may only be with the 16l tanks. My guess is that the sender unit needs bending to a new position with the 19l tank so the warning light comes on when you want it to.

I think it was about half a litre in both tanks that was unreachable?

I've never put more than 17 litres in my tank though, so don't take my word for it

I'll have a look when I get the chance, but I wouldn't have thought the two tanks are much different on the underside, where it would affect the sender unit.

You may want to test the sender unit, make sure it's working. Page 19-24 in the Honda workshop manual has some tests you can do.
