Colour code ?

Post by karenvtr »

Hello every one !! Its been awhile since i have been on ... hope everyone has had a great Xmas and start to the New Year :D

Im hoping somebody has a magic answer for me :confused ... My other half has treated my lovely VTR to a freshen up ! ... The hugger and belly pan were badly marked and the wheels had got tatty .. Its in the paint shop ... the parts have all been "prepped" and ready for paint ... now is the problem !! They cant match the colour 8O  The closest they can offer is RAL3026 which is listed as a red ?

You would of hoped they would do that before the point of no return right ? ... Iv contacted Dream Machine themselves who originally painted it but they mix by eye and each one is different apparently ..

to my question then ..... Does any one have any idea how to get a colour code for the Orange in this colour scheme ? Maybe some one has had this issue before and has the answer ?

Thanks for reading guys .. hope to hear from you soon !! :(

Looks close to the Suzuki orange that on the gsxr and if dream machine did it then I would have thought it be a bike colour, Ring a Suzuki dealer get the code

Hi Karen happy new year. Your going to have problems getting an exact match for something that has been custom mixed. Actually even if it was a standard pre-mixed colour it would still not match 100% exact due to paint batch numbers and colour fade over the years etc. It's basically down to the skill of the painter custom mixing to get as close a match as possible.

Hi Karen, sorry I can't help, surely a good painter would get a good match by eye, am I right in thinking that colour scheme suffers from fade, as I've seen a few advertised over the year's, and paint fade has been mentioned..
Good luck with your freshen up.
Oh and what was the reason for that paint scheme, was it to celebrate something or other?

Any paint that is exposed to light will fade over the years!!!

Your right, spot on mate. It's down to the pigments used to get the colour in the paints.

From the image of your bike the red/orange features on the mudguard, tank and tail. Can they they match from any of those from a sheltered area? As it was a custom colour then it'll will nigh on impossible to get a perfect match accounting for fade etc. It can be very difficult to even match certain factory colours i.e yellows and pearls as they vary in batches. The only way to get a matching colour all over is to resparay the whole bike from the same batch of paint or as a compromise to subtly spray blend in new areas of paint over old areas.
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Hi again guys .... Many thanks for all the replys !! As I thought,no easy task to match !! ... As to the question of why this paint scheme .. I have no idea ? .... I have found and spoken to a great guy at a company called specialistpaints in Sheffield ..

http://specialistpaints.com/products/luminous-paint

They offer the above range of Luminous paints and have offered to send me paint chips for the 3 closest Colours :D Hopefully one of these will look good ! ... The spray lads have offered to do the entire lower half of the bike (Hugger,Bellypan,Front mudguard and wheels) for the same price quoted just so they all tie in together ...

Fingers crossed the paint chips are good :D

This is what Hubby has been on with ... My poor baby has been strung up for weeks now !! :(

Karen, RS paints -
http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php

offer a service where they examine an item in the colour required and will sell you the primer, top coat and laquer required to match the item. They're not far from me so if you wanted me to pop round with the part I'm more than willing. Other than that you can speak to them on the number shown and post direct.
I used them to match some silver paint on a bike I was rebuilding and using parts from a Rieju. They matched it exactly.
Good luck
