Ali I might invest in some gear to record my riding data, would be good to keep a record and see what areas need improving

I ride a hard tail MTB (stubby) with an armadillo rear and Wet mud front. Must try some skinny road tyres soon

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/schw ... -prod69137 I used these for road work in the widest size so the bike still looks in proportion. also it allows me to keep the same inner tubes

Any info gladly received

Hows the training going boys?

I am still yet to put tyres to the track this year as it's far too cold for my liking, but training it going well. 1/2 stone lost since the 1st and now focusing on reducing my body fat percentage (currently 26.5% 8O ). I found this out at a "body stat" session in the gym last night.

I'm really looking forward to the temps rising so I can get back out on the trails

my training schedule is shot to bits last week by bad weather and the trials ride over the weekend. I should have done 4 rides on the bike but did 1 :( .

looks like I am going to keep repeating week2 of my schedule till I get it completed

well I managed to get out late Sunday to try and continue building the miles after a week of no cycling, didnt turn out the best, as I already felt I had lost some energy in my legs. backed up by the data that my time was slower and the average speed dropped below 13, and i didnt have much left in the tank on the last hill

So after I had done all the other jobs on my list it was heading towards 4pm and i thought I would be smart and ride a route I did 1 week ago but in reverse........discovered that you need to reverse the route on the computer and re save it as the little bar mounted device cant do that its self, so tracking the route was a bit of a problem. then after 2 miles it started to get windier, then it started to hail, then it went back to rain for the next 10 miles.......and when the rain stopped it was now night time!!!!

remind me why we do this?

I would remind you why, but hell if I know. I've been doing everything in the gym or sports hall.

Legs and back are building nicely. Starting work on shoulders and chest from tomorrow. This better benefit my riding once I start proper.

I can get into my leathers already which is good as I was a similar weight this time last year and had no chance of getting into them. I must have changed shape. lol

You joining me on london to brighton Al?

Got so fed up with the wet nights stopping me getting any miles I through the week I have now invested in a turbo trainer as well!
So while swapping the quick release spindle to the one needed to hold it in the turbo trainer frame I noticed the rear wheel bearings were making a bit of a noise so I stripped them down and the chain side was full of water. I think i caught it early enough but only time will tell :( So then I stripped the front wheel brgs as well and the water was just starting to get in there as well :eek2 So then had a look at the bottom bracket and it's rumbling as well. Tried to re grease but they will need replaced. :confused

Ferking shite roadbikes can't even cope with our water logged roads.

So I did manage a 23 mile ride outside Saturday but didnt feel like i had much energy ... suffering from not having any miles through the week, then did a more gentle turbo session for 45 mins tonight.

Off shopping for a new bottom bracket tomorrow.

Sealed hub wheels are the way to go Al. Also get a sealed BB

Turbo trainers are great although I didn't get on mine this week.

Managed this little lot though;

Monday - 2h30m of badminton (Doubles)
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - 1hr gym session leg lat pec and chest
Thursday - 2hrs of volleyball training
Friday - 45 minutes league volleyball
Saturday - 1h45m badminton (singles)
Sunday - 2hrs badminton (doubles)

More of the same this week. Really looking forward to seeing how all this relates to cycling fitness.

Did you watch Horizon last week? Fat V's Sugar. Two identical twin brothers, both Doctors, one living in the US where sugar is the new pariah and one in the UK where we avoid fats. Each took the diet which suited the country of residence, one on high sugar the other high fat.
Very surprising results which challenged perceived knowledge. Worth viewing on catch up/I player.

That test on the twins sounds very interesting, I spent a year on low sugar, low fat, low carb but HIGH protein diet, lost around 2st within weeks and started gaining a fair amount of muscle (which has mostly dissappeared now!).

I've just secured the purchase of a jump bike, should get it in a few weeks! Danny Mcaskill look out!

They found the worst culprit was when fat and sugar were mixed together- doughnuts, biscuits, processed nosh. Fat on it's own ok, sugar on it's own ok but combined and, oh dear.
The twin on the high fat diet lost 3.5kg, however 2kg of that was muscle mass :eek2 Not good. He also ended up nearly diabetic bizarely.
