So what happens if you're cruising along in the left (slow) lane with nothing in front for miles and you eventually come upon a car in the right (fast) lane. Are you supposed to change lanes and sit behind this idiot until he wakes up and takes his hand off his Richard and moves over? Or can you continue to cruise along in the left lane?

I can fully appreciate Undertaking, but are we breaking the law

...according to the UK highway code YES you are breaking the law by overtaking on the inside!! 8O though in the US some local areas have legalised 'undertaking' 8O

but aren't the 'hogs' breaking the law too.....by staying out there in the first place???

 ...and 2 wrongs make a right, Kaz..???

an agressive  and asertive  bike instructor once told me.."the only time you should be in the 'overtaking'/right lane is to overtake or preparing to turn right & the only time the highway code justifies 'undertaking' is when you are passing someone turning right  ....so if you come up behind someone in the outside lane :( and they are not overtaking  they must be preparing to turn right therefore you are justified in passing on the inside :P !!

this would apply to dual carriageways (where there are exits to the right) in the uk but not on the motorways  !!

Had a disscussion on the Blackbird site about this.
Apparently if youre already in the inside lane you can overtake but slowly, you will get pulled for switching lanes to overtake on the inside especially if you go racing past.

But the with the amount of twats sitting in the outside lane not even doing the limit it's about time there was a clampdown on them and more concentration on lane discipline, than the rediculus situation where speeding is claimed as the biggest evil in all chrisindom.
