Post by 10robbo »

hi all,
cant remember where I saw it but someone had fitted a 190/50/17 rear tyre to a storm,my question is do you think it would improve or destroy the handling.my bike has a 180 at the moment which I think is the right size

The 180 section tyre will be the best regarding handling,

If it's a drag bike then 190 will be OK. If you want to go around corners then stick with the 180.

Well I run a 180 rear and believe it is the best option but some have run a 190 with reported good results.

The biggest thing to look at if and when you want to try a 190 rear is to find one that is recommended for a 5.5" wheel.
Most are made for 6" wheels (this info can be found on the tire manufactures web site).

What happens is that if you squeeze a tire made for 6" wheel on a 5.5" rim you end up with a unintended which causes handling issues.

So while I'll stick with a 180 rear, if you want to give it a go, just make sure you get a tire that will work with the wheel you are running.
