Motobatt MBTX12U ??

Post by Mav617 »

Hi,

heard decent things about these so purchased one today. However it's a firkin tight fit in the battery carrier and the neg terminal doesn't seem to reach. Anyone fiitted one of these, and did you have to make any mods?

It's so tight, not sure I can get the fooker out again.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

Yup its a bugger. Get the battery out and unclip the plastic compartment so it can accommodate the battery. Make sure you tightenen up securely the bolt in connectors to the battery. Fun and games when mine slightly loosened as the cable to the connector was done up all right and appeared okay but the hidden bolt had worked loose into the battery body.

Neg connector should connect as its in the same position on the right as the standard battery.

Iv'e got two of these batteries on the go now, Very happy with both ,seem to remember separating the battery from a plastic cradle that comes with it, and have added a strong thin strap around the battery to make removal easier, funny thing though Wicky I had to retighten the allen screws on the terminals only today.

I'm with chris
I've had one of these for some time, lose the plastic tray at the bottom, fit a strap around it to make removal a doddle, the terimals are made of swiss cheese and you have to be careful with them, but other than that its a thumbs up.
I have heard from a bike shop, that the more recent motobatt's aren't as good, but as I bought mine yrs ago, I can't comment on that.

Sorry mate, that the battery carrier on the bike you're referring to? I removed (didn't fit rather) the two extra pieces of plastic that attach to the battery bottom. My bike's a 99 model, did the standard battery stay the same after 2002 when they "upgraded" with the 19ltr tank etc?

As far as I know the batteries stayed the same throughout the storms life, I will say that the big yellow battery fits just, I ended up having to leave off the OEM battery cover/lid, as it was to tight a fit :(
But it was a worthwhile trade off, for having the extra battery power...

That's right remove the placcy on the bottom of the battery as this is to make it the same size as the later ('01+) Storms battery which was slightly taller and therefore bigger for better amps. I also had to due the very tight squeeze remove the whole battery cover tray (it unclips) and trim the peg holes a bit and put it back in. http://www.ronayers.com/REAR-FENDER-C212293.aspx
