"Rats with Antlers" around this house.. they are everywhere ... Crashed into them in my GT... TWICE, GT500, F350...TWICE

Though as they get left on the side of the road,, I have "heard" of folks going back later to scavenge some meat to use as dog food

NOT Reccomended : LED replacement headlight
So finally had some time and weather to do a night ride.
60 miles after teaching an MSF class.
The light is a nice 4300 K or so white, Thats a plus
The Low beam pattern is not terrible, the spread, cut off and distance is pretty spot on.. there is a bright band right in front of the bike, a dark band 2 through 3 feet in front..... and good light from there.
The dark band is not in a "riding" area... ie not a place where light matters or is useful... so not having full pattern light there is not missed performance wise.
High beam.. Spread is very good.. nice and wide to light up them critters coming across the road., fill from nose to as far as light penetrates is good,,,but that IS the problem... no real distance the light pattern is not "enough" to really light of up the road at a distance I expect from a performance H4 bulb.
Any of the H4 100 watt hi beams (60/100 or 80/100) would beat this LED light hands down with distance fill light.
So.. If you need a in town, on lighted highway, no long distance light.. This LED with its nice white, light would be a ok choice.
But anyone looking for some distance, so as to not over ride the light available.. PASS on the LED for now.

Shame about the distance light. This is where I suffer most with the Standard bulbs. I know exactly what you mean about overriding the light. That is what I do in the countryside at times and it can be scary. Like riding into the unknown. I have the same problem in terrestrial rain and feel like I have to let the force be with me. Close my eyes (not literally) and go for it. Being short-sighted don't help ether.

Guess I'll be sticking my Eastern Beaver relay kit and Hella 55/100W set-up....
I should note one caveat, however, as the set-up tried is an eBay "China Inc" special and NOT the kit listed at the start of the thread..... may have gotten a different result with the latter (maybe not too, who knows)

Re: LED replacement headlight
I think we are coming up to the peak of LED technology with new advancements coming out all the time as it's not quite perfected. Give it 6 months and see what comes onto the market.

Re: LED replacement headlight
I am not an any way electrically knowledgeable.
but years of fiddling around lead me to believe the biggest problem with various headlights is the reflector/ lens arrangement.
I once had a Honda XBR500 and the headlight was awful. The light was scattered and spread too thin.
I modified the bulb mounting slots so that the bulb was set back about 2 to 3 mm. The light now shone down the road and not so much up the surrounding hedges. It made the bike ride-able in the dark unlit countryside.
I am not suggesting this a fix for anyone else.
My Firestorm has the worst headlight I have had for many many years and yet the bulb capacity / output is very similar if not the same as say my 06 Yamaha TMax which had very good lights.
So I still think it's down to the lens and or reflector. That said ... I don't yet have a ready fix in mind.
