Swingarm bobbins?
Swingarm bobbins?
I've done the stupid thing and looked on eBay for swingarm bobbing for my bike. It had loads listed with 8M bolts so I bought a pair and they've come today. Thing is there is no holes for said bolts. Do storms have hole for bobbins to be put on, or had my bike possibly a none standard swingarm on it?
Re: Swingarm bobbins?
There are no standard provisions for bobbins I'm afraid, most people seem to drill and tap into the side of the swingarm or you could get a block of ally welded to the underside with an M8 thread in.

Wouldn't either of them slightly weaken the swingarm?
Re: Swingarm bobbins?
I guess drilling it would weaken it, but only a fraction. The standard swingarm is overly tough and sturdy so I wouldn't be worried.
Welding a block on the underside wouldn't weaken it.
In my opinion of course

If you are worried use a rivnut

Yes the dimensions etc you'll find in the Workshop section. I used Rivinuts for mine but machined the back side of the bobbin out so the flange of the Rivinut fits and allows the bobbin to fit flush.

Re: Swingarm bobbins?
I have heard of people getting bobbins pin a pin on that push into the spindle on both sides and you remove them once there off the stand, anybody seen them?
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!
Re: Swingarm bobbins?
hi, bobbin's on swingarm = rear wheel removal.
bobbin's in spindle = no rear wheel removal???.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like rivnuts are the way forward. All I need now is to find someone with a rivnut tool to loan me.

Rivnuts mean an even bigger hole than necessary is needed.
If you're that fussed, have a circular disc welded on each side and drill through that.
But if threading a thin section use fine threads- more meat to grip onto.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Swingarm bobbins?
I wouldn't go drilling holes directly into the Swingarm. It's simple.... have a bit of metal bar welded to the bottom of the swingarm, drill holes, thread and your done.
sh1t picture as it's pitch black outside and I just aimed and fired
