What to do with my CBR ratfighter?

Post by Bleh »

So, a few years back I bought a 1995 CBR 6 F3 on the cheap... Basically, the lad dropped it onto the steps by his house and knackered the fairings. He had no cash and the story starts from there...

Anyway, I decided to have some fun with it and fighter it (or basically, remove the fairings et al.) and over the past few years I've spent money on this then on that just to do something different in 6 months time so it's changed it's look a few times but is still no show winner, nowhere near, this was my only ride until the VTR came along and I've grown to really really like it so the CBR has become surplus to requirements.

This brings me to my next dilemma, with me no longer considering the CBR and not having anywhere safe and dry to store it, I may as well consider departing with it, but in what manner? Do I sell it as an ongoing project or break it for parts?

The lump is good and even though I haven't started it in a few months and the battery is flat, I'm confident that once fully charged, it'll be ticking over in no time at all. Plenty of pull on it, had 14k on the clock before I got rid of them and have added about 3.5k to it with the amount of times it's been apart and back together :shifty:

But there isn't a phenomenal amount of standard bits to sell besides the main gubbings. I've modified the loom so wouldn't attempt to sell that.

My main thought is will I get more for it in parts than selling it as a whole?! My triple tree is 42mm billet ali (6061) with ali risers for being upright so probably only any good to anyone wanting to fighter theirs, not sure what else they'd fit on!

What would you do?

Stick it on eBay as is but £500 is about right for one and as you don't have the bits that fetch the money like fairings it isn't worth breaking up

First thing I'd do is stick a photo or two along with your post and hopefully you'll stumble upon someone who's looking for something similar as a project.

You never know....

Not a bad shout... Is it simple enough to upload pics on a post?

Wouldn't list it for £500, been offered more locally (should've mentioned it in first post!).

Just off the top of my head, a list of CBR compatible parts;

Good lump (with starter and water pump, seen some for sale without...)
Headers (quite clean in fairness)
After-market 'race use only' Scorpion and link pipe.
Shock with hyoer-pro spring
Swingarm linkages (but swingarm could probably do with a respray as could most panels)
Wheels (with recent bearings)
ECU
Carbs
Airbox
Battery box
Front and rear calipers
Almost new sprockets and chain (less than 400 miles on them).
Custom seat (done by Kaos Customs at a pretty penny, slightly different and more comfortable for pillion)
Switches
Tank (could do with a respray though)
Tail light
Spindles
Fork legs (partly polished, but want to keep stanchions for VTR if dimensionally correct).

Other things which I would no longer have use for;
42mm billet yokes with ali risers.
Koso 'single' speedo with idiot lights
Set of worm out twin headlights (got to be worth £5-10 though!).

I mean, engine alone I've seen at the lowest at £280, admittedly, from a breaker but that is without a lot of the components so £200-£250 without carbs would sound fair to me. Obviously, I'd charge it up and take a video of the thing running before a spanner gets near it and if it wasn't for a lack of garage or dry storage, I wouldn't even contemplate breaking/ selling, but it is what it is and I don't want to watch it rot!

Well if you do break it I'll have the fuel pump and fuel lines :-)

May be a 'fighter, but it's not a "rat" in my book.
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!

It's neither. It's just an un-faired CBR. It could be called a de-restricted Hornet
