Hyperpro Spring installation direction

Post by kitsun »

Hi All

Any advice on which direction to install the HyperPro springs? Close coils down or up? The original Honda springs specifies installation with the close coils facing down.

+1

They are progressive springs so have more resistance the further the fork travel.

Just fitted set of hyperpro springs in an SV and it said tight coils upward unless marked on a sticker on the spring.

One has to go with whatever the instructions say then I suppose. Thinking about it does it make a difference which way around they go. Tighter coils offer more resistance but being a spring would it work both ways. The less sprung part would compress the same from either end  The standard progressive springs have the tighter coils towards the bottom according to the workshop manual.

That's the confusion, the HyperPro instructions says its normally close coils up but to refer to the front page label and see what it says. Had a look and the label says NOTHING - NADA! But like cybercarl says its a spring, it should work whichever way its installed. I may go with the Honda Workshop Manual.

Popkat, which way was your SV OEM springs installed?

I think the only effect of the orientation of fitting is the amount of oil displaced. If the close wound end is down that will displace more oil so you have less working air gap in the forks when assembled. But as you want to tune the air gap anyway as part of a fork set up ( it's a trial and error setting ) so as long as you always refit them the same up every time it will be ok.
