"Rat" bikes?

Post by Mav617 »

Is there a genuine reason why anyone would want a "rat" bike? Personal opinions of course, but to me it's a case of "it looks shite, why bother making it a tiny bit better, easier to spray it badly and claim it's a Rat?"

Am sure there's some "rat" (non-VTR) owners on here, so what's the attraction? Price of plastics/waiting for the apocalypse/post-nuclear wasteland/Mad-Max fetish?

Not talking scruffy, more the sprayed with creosote/nothing fits right bikes.

As for Bleh's "rat" CBR, I wouldn't call that a Rat, looks sorted to me.

I have seen a "turbo rat" that looked quite cool, however it was from backstreet heroes magazine and despite being a "rat" I dare say it cost more than some new bikes

I think the idea behind a Rat bike is to have something that is practical and cheap to to run all year around. Lets face it, if one drops their bike it's easier to get a can of Black spray or Dulux LOL and give it a quick patch up. Weather does not matter and wont make much difference to the appearance of the bike and it's a lot less desirable for being stolen. Rat bikes are usually very hard worked bikes, also popular in the courier/despatch industry.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Flippin' heck, that's just my point - the motorcycle equivalent of animal cruelty......

Maybe he's listed as one of the Hound's previous owners.

Some people do some very strange things to their bikes.
