so what have you gained?
Nothing yet as I'm still on standard gearing  The -1 will be going on shortly though. Quick question! How will that effect the speedo, will it show slower or faster than reality and does that gap increase or decrease as one picks up speed?

(:-})
When I was running 16\43 or 15\41 the total speedo error was right at 10%.

This was due to adding the change from the gearing to the factory error (as they read a little optimistic from the factory).

I also found it to be pretty constant at any road speed you might be running...... or I can't give you a solid answer at over a ton but then again I am usually not watching the speedo at those speeds....

Though your Odo will read around 5-6% high which you need to account for when doing fuel consumption calculations.

Thanks for the reply Stephen, but I'm confused.

If I divide 15 into 41, I get 0.3658536585365854 so 0.3%. That must be wrong I though so tried 16 divided by 43 = 0.372093023255814 so 0.3 again. :confused Bloody maths my worst subject  I'm useless at it. Never mind....I don't know how your coming up with the percentages but 5% or 7% is not that much and speed cameras allow for that because of discrepancies with various speedos. So as long as I keep a little under what my speedo reads at lower speeds and increase how little under the higher the speed I go I should be OK I would think.

Dam those revenue makers. Not only do they make one take eyes of the road and stare at the speedo, they cause everyone to slam on their brakes and cause accidents. Who said speed cameras are for road safety.

Interesting how there is less of a percentage going +2 on the rear compared to -1 on the front.
Though your Odo will read around 5-6% high which you need to account for when doing fuel consumption calculations.
Now there is something I did not think about. Odo/mileage on engine for resale purpose I don't care about, I'm not selling  but Odo for fuel consumption one would adapt to it. Light will come on at higher mileage. Maybe this is why there are so many variations in the how many miles to a tank do you get threads along with some of us ride like grannies and others a bit more ham-fisted.

well -1 in the front is more equivilant to going +3 in the rear due to the total percentage of teeth based on its relative size i beleive. one tooth doesnt affect a much bigger rear sprocket as much as it affects the much smaller front.

and im not sure if i understood what your saying correctly but your gas light will come on at the same time because its senseing fuel in the tank, not miles traveled. yes your trip meter will read a higher number but that doesnt affect what your actually getting. the funny thing is with shorter gearing, your trip meter will tell you your getting better MPG, but in reality your getting worse due to higher revs.

cybercarl: I was wrong, to get gear ratio we need divide 41 by 16, when I have comp now, I show what I mean :-)

Fuel consumption is good point, when calculate, multiply result by constant (1.07 for 15/41 e.g.)

Got it, thanks lads.

Jscobey, yes trip meter is was I meant to say. Most of us use that as a crude fuel gauge.

Stephen that chart is handy

With a stock speedo being maybe 10% out, that just reiterates to me how unfair speed cameras are and that they are are only there to make money.
