Using an Abba Stand on a Firestorm

Post by zanelad »

Having recently bought my Firestorm and now the fitting kit for it from Abba, I see that there are two plastic covers at the end of the swingarm where the stand will fit.

Forgive a stupid question, but are these just prised off or do they unscrew.

I thought I'd ask before attacking them with a screwdriver and doing untold damage to my bike.

somewhere on the perimeter of the cap will be a recess that will allow you to put a blade screwdriver in to pop it off.

You will find two little gaps on each plastic cap, where the plastic touches the hanger (the mating face) pop a flat head screwdriver in the gap and carefully pop the cap out.

No unscrewing involved, it's essentially an interference fit into the hanger.

Sometimes it's the smallest things which catch us out!

:)

Thanks guys, I know that someone, somewhere once said that there's no such thing as a daft question, but sometimes I do feel that I shouldn't be allowed out unsupervised.

You can also adapt the Abba stand to mount off the rear engine mounts to aid removal of the swingarm

When I put the plastic end caps back on I position the cutout at the 12 o'clock position...makes it easier next time !

That works a treat too! I don't bother using the abba stand on the swingarm bolt anymore

Feck me Marty thats nothing...The Connect vans we use at work have the same fiendish bonnet release. One of the other blokes waited over 6 months to ask how to open the bonnet...

Are they the ones where you pop the key in the front and go clockwise & anticlockwise?
