It was definitely the spindle though, when I held my hand on it, the sound was muted and I could feel the vibration from it.
Maybe it was aliens?

I haven't spent any time with my baby.. I mean bike.. this week, so not sure about the ticking.

If it was after a ride it will be the rear disc binding slightly and cooling with contracting noises.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
