How many bubbles is this screen then?

Post by StewartR »

Life's a bit noisy behind this (despite earplugs and buff). I'm 6'2" and hoping there is a better option out there than this. Thoughts?

The fabri screens are good kit, but if you are tall they don't kick up enough. Try getting a flip screen

Looks like that might be the path - Is that 'MEA' mention in that thread an 'MRA' though?

Just seems very noisy so I was wondering where it fitted into the grand scheme of things - where the next steps up was in terms of deflection. This looks alright but I'm hoping to make the Pyrenees later in the year and unless I can get the noise down it's going to suck on the VTR.

Try a flip screen - silicone earplugs and possibly a different lid. A packed tank bag can help you tuck down when high speed cruising.

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

I'm only 5'8 and have a Fabbri screen and it appears to make more noise the lower I tuck myself down behind it. The noise I believe is actually more wind noise running over my lid and as I sit more upright it disappears. It's all about finding that aerodynamic sweet spot.

Used to get on okay with cylindrical foam but am on conical foam now - maybe that's he problem so i'll try a variety, silicone included, and then maybe go MRA/Skidmarx if I need more.

Don't think I need to replace the lid - all the noise is around the skirt so if I can move the dirty air a bit I hope to be good.

As ever, cheers for the pointers

you can get a neoprene seal that goes round the base of your helmet [oh er  ] that cuts the noise very well. only problem I found was that it tried to tear my ears off when I removed the lid! but I have jug lugs so that might not help.

I still have it in my helmet cupboard, so if you want to try it send me a PM and you can have it for postage, or collect at workshop day.

you might also be able to have a go on other bikes with other screens at the workshop day...........well at least you can sit on them and make broom broom noises

Cheers for the offer but I don't reckon I'd get on with one of those.
