Newbie Buying first Storm

Post by moblies »

Morning chaps

I've been offered a 98 R reg Storm in Yellow for a little less than £2k with 17000 miles on the clock, HPI is ok, not much in the way of history.

Anything to look out for ??? , this will be my first bike with Carbs - I was looking at an sv1000 with fuel injection but prefer the storm

Thanks

Aye up Moblies

Good to have you on board.

As Kaz has said, just check the CCT's, the rest of it is fairly bullet proof.

Look at getting yourself some nice cans if it has'nt already and maybe getting the front fork sorted, a couple of hundred quid and your sorted mate

then get on and enjoy.

Welcome aboard Moblies, It sounds a reasonable price without actually seeing the bike. I would check its a UK model and not an import (import would have had originally KPH speedo and headlight which will dip the wrong way, mot failure) as some were not full power, the registration document should confirm that.
As far as CCTs go, not that expensive to replace (I paid less than £100 for 2 CCTs, 2 gaskets including vat and p&p) providing they're changed before they let go :!:
Some members have fitted fixed CCTs, others have modified the Honda ones and a lot have opted for just changing them on a regular basis, I think its a lot to do with personal choice and the amount of miles you will intend to be doing, if you are mechanically minded and your engine starts to make a different noise than normal (like a slapping or ticking sound usually noticed on the over run) you will hear it. I wouldn't let that put you off buying one myself, but the choice is obviously yours :!:

I don't know what experience of motorcycling you have had, but if you've only ridden 4 cylinder bikes you are going to find the big vee twin a completely different ball game :!: You will either love it or hate it :!: So you MUST test ride one first :!:

Good luck with it, and lets us know how you get on
