SP2 is £500 fc and a 600f is 2k, 600rr is 2.5k

They may be a lower group but they get crashed stupidly often.

Sounds like you'd recommend this place Seb, I have been looking at track schools recently myself

I will note the brakes on the CBR600 was mind blowing!
I have been reading up on the 600rr recently. They are good bikes and cheap to insure. The newer ones have ABS which helps with the braking plus they are radials. They also have larger fork tubes to stiffen up the front end and keep it planted as you brake.

(:-})
yeah they had ABS on them but didn't even get to the point where ABS kicked in they was that good

plus they are nicked all the time! not often you hear of an SP owner having his pride and joy nicked but look on the FB groups and the 600's are always going missing

Defo mate i feel a much better, faster (where safe to be) and in control road rider now as well, fast corners and tight corners just seem so much easier now

Definitely doing it again, i used to love racing moto-x but its nothing compared to a tarmac race track

Wow, makes my £142, fully comp protected no claims renewal on a GSXR 1000 look cheap.

As for the race school, it does sound spot on. If I were to do it now, it wouldn't be because I was on their bike and just in case I binned it, it would be simply for the tutorial and having a bike pre-set up perfectly for the track. I was going to do it last year, but in the end just decided to take a risk and try it on my own. Obviously everyone is different, but I found that I was glad I did.

Personally I found that being on the track is no different, and in fact, felt safer than the road. Lots of people assume that if you take your bike on a track, you'll bin it, warp the brakes and shred the engine....I found none of that was true.

I reckon the people buying them has a lot to do with it. Obviously this is a MASSIVE stereotype, but compare a 24 odd yr old buying his first bike, living in rented or 'cheaper' housing, maybe storing the bike outside...

Now a guy in his 40s probably, buying an expensive, rare, classic bike, probably keeping it in his garage in his nice quiet street where the kids grew up.

Which one is gonna get nicked?

well that's how insurance works . first year I had my storm I had about 3 years ncd and I got a years fully comp for about 80 quid iirc.

I asked the broker why so cheap and was told that the insurer only had about a dozen storms on their books and had probably never had a claim ??

Yeah man felt very safe on track not having to worry about pot holes, change of road surface, horse sh1t or mcdonalds all over the road, not to mention traffic potentially in your lane, being pulled out on etc

i imagine on a 1000 the bikes they are not getting as hammered as the 600's engine are, as it wasn't my bike i wasn't concerned with holding it on the redline in 2nd and 3rd gears

my god it was a shock to the system how different the engine of a 1000 is to a 600 of similar class, there is literally no go at all until you get it screaming

the difference between me going round the first session to the last was like someone else had turned up to ride the bike. i was totally dog sh1t at first, you think in your head your doing everything right but your not lol once they point out what your are and are not doing after watching you then you start to learn and make real progress

I went to Donington last year too and yeah, its great being on someone else's bike cos that's one less thing to be concerned about.

But last month I took my storm down to Blyton Park track (Gainsborough, near Doncaster). Its a similar format, 5 x 20 minutes track time and 3 riders to 1 coach. Feedback and classroom sessions between each track session.

The good thing about taking your own bike to a track is that its a safe place to push myself on my machine to get more confidence in what it can do, certainly further than on the road.
Lol, still a slow rider ... but a bit better.
