Seat Lock - Doesn't
Seat Lock - Doesn't
So, all ready to go, MOT booked for next Sat - fitted the seat cowl and put the seat on, key in and turned - seat won't lock down. It drops a bit, but even pushing it down the seat won't lock down. Is this common on Storms? Feels like it's not going down enough to engage, and when you let the key off it pushes the seat back up? I have a bigger battery (removed battery box lid), would that stop it seating in the lock properly?
I'm so unlucky that if there is such a thing as re-incarnation I'll come back as me!
Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
Do you still have the shiny brackets on the underside of the seat? They always make it a right pain in the butt to put on/take off.. ( at least they did for me! )

Yes if the larger battery is catching the seat.I have a bigger battery (removed battery box lid), would that stop it seating in the lock properly?

Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
Hi Virt - no, took them off a while back. Going to try and file the U loop down a bit to see if I can get the catch to click over it.

Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
Firstly is there anything else under the seat ? Remove & try again...Mav617 wrote:So, all ready to go, MOT booked for next Sat - fitted the seat cowl and put the seat on, key in and turned - seat won't lock down. Secondly do you still have the strap & hooks on the seat ? Junk them it makes getting seat on & off much easier...!
Is the seat cowl fitted on correctly ? Two little tabs on the base engage two small plastic prongs on the seat...+ the single tab at the rear.
Re the larger battery try placing a thin bit of card or even paper, over the battery, try the seat again, remove it & look at the card/paper to see if it has been marked/been squashed. That will tell you if its too tight. Then again removing the battery & trying the seat without it will tell you if that's the issue.
Also give the seat lock mechanism a good going over to make sure its working properly, lock cable & catch & that the catch is tight & not moving when you push the seat down.
Hope that helps & you resolve the problem.

Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
Anything else under the seat? Tools, spares etc. Anything to stop the seat sitting flush? Without those clips the seat drops in dead easy. Is the loop on the seat bent or mis positioned? Does the key operate the clip mechanism correctly?
Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
No need for that. Juts give them a slight tap with a hammer towards the front of the bike. This then allow the metal bars to slide on and off them far easier.Going to try and file the U loop down a bit to see if I can get the catch to click over it.

If you installed a taller battery, did you remove the tray at the base of the battery box.

Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
There's a tray down there? Prety sure there was nothing in the battery box when putting the Motobatt in, and I removed the "spacers" that came with it. Not those loops Carl, the one that sits in the lock mechanism.cybercarl wrote:No need for that. Juts give them a slight tap with a hammer towards the front of the bike. No hooks on my seat (took them off), nothing under seat - just feels it won't go down far enough, possibly because of the Motobatt (which will be a swine to get out). Think I'll dremel the loop a bit so there's more of a gap for the catch to go over. Obviously not a common issue and the Hound strikes again!

Sorry no, I'm getting confused. We've been here before haven't we.There's a tray down there?

Are you still managing to get the lug in at the front of the seat. I cant see how the battery being a little taller will affect the seat lock. At worst it will juts bow the seat a bit. Maybe all that is needed is a little adjustment to the seat lock. Make a note of how it all connects together before dismantling anything though as the seat lock can be fiddly.

Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
Piece of card over battery, that's not causing the problem. I haven't had the seat on for months, any advantage in putting the hooks back on? I suppose I'll have to. Anyone else have rubbers on the bottom of the seat that sit on the subframe?

Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
lug fits in at front, loop on rear doesn't seem to fit far down enough to sit under the catch. Catch is sound, I took it apart and it all seems fine - open it, put a keyring in, close it and pull and it stays secure so the seat loop must not be going in far enough is all I can think. Catch is odd as the thickest part is at the bottom, I guess to guide the loop as it's pushed down and then over.cybercarl wrote:Sorry no, I'm getting confused. Re: Seat Lock - Doesn't
Mine does near the front of the seat, one on each side. Not sure if there are any others further back,Mav617 wrote: Anyone else have rubbers on the bottom of the seat that sit on the subframe?
