lightened flywheel

Post by mik_str »

Hi folks,

Although I enjoy the power delivery of my VTR, I must confess that I would like it to be a bit snappier in the way it responds to throttle input. I know that Moriwaki makes a light flywheel for example which must be for this very purpose. I seem to recall someone (on another site?) saying that you could machine 1/2" off the stock one to get a decent improvement. A slightly quicker response and ability to gain revs more quickly would help to enhance the performance feel of the engine I would think.

Can anyone confirm this? Is there a downside to doing this (ie. changing the vibration frequencies?... ) Anything else to consider?

cheers

I not an expert on this, but I would say that with a lighter flywheel and or crankshaft, there will be a pay off. What you gain in quicker response you'll loose in torque and IMO thats what makes the Firestorm.

Somebody on here has a balanced crank, I would say having that with a blue printed engine would be your best bet :!:

Just did a search its firestorm996 with the balanced crank. I think he said that the bike was definitely a lot more responsive once the crank was balanced :!:

Roger at Revolution Racing is the man to speak to about your question :!:

I think that if i had thrown loads of money at an engine like that, i would convince myself there was a huge difference even if there wasnt ! :D
