Bike mechanic

Post by uk13iker »

Visited mechanic told him what I think the problem might be asked him if he could have a look and call me with a price he said he would be diagnosing it as he fixed it sounds expensive to me I know if I take my car in with a problem they will find the problem then call with price for parts and labour before doing any work is it any different with bikes?? Cause at £25 to get bike in then £30 an hour there's £55 before any repairs even been attempted

Mostly with cars they will only poke around under the bonnet and plug in the diagnostic to "find" the problem.
Bikes take a bit more looking into- well, these ones do, anyway, some modern stuff with fuel injection etc need a computer to analyse, depending on the problem.

No-one will give you a quote based on your own opinion of what's wrong, in case there's additional damage when they open it up.
It's often the case that you find a split gasket or seal, rumbkly bearing etc, and there's no point slapping it back together without sorting those while you're there- so extra time and parts may be needed.

Unless it's a puncture or something very obvious like that, of course, and even then they might notice knackered wheel or head bearings, worn pads, chafed brake lines etc.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
