Stuck / Spun bolts for bottom fairing. Ugh.

Post by jztam »

Does there exist a trick for removing the bottom fairing under the oil pan? Mine are stuck and/or spinning in place.
Tried some vice grips, but the female side is very cheesy, like mild aluminum.
Can't use heat because of the plastic it's holding on. Tried penetrating oil over two days, no luck.

Looks like I'll have to drill out the head of the bolt, unless someone has a better story to share.
Of course the end goal is to change the oil filter..
Thanks all.

if you have the standard fairing lower/bikini fairing, your last resort is to cut it off, you can buy them cheaply enough off of ebay, i'm sure several members on here would have one sitting in there garage that they'd be willing to sell.
sorry that doesn't help with the bolts, but at least you'll be able to do an oil change....

Try putting some outward force on the bolt from behind the fairing while undoing it.
