IIRC Carbon-fibre tanks aren't legal in UK

Interesting, but too expensive.
How about just giving a spare tank to a carbon mnfr and asking them to make a larger version in carbon?

There's a couple that will consider development work- Carbon King are worth an ask, and there's one that advertises one-off work in PB, IIRC.

But why buy one and then paint it?

Gotta show off the bling..... :biggrin
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

carbon tanks are legal in the uk as far as I know wicky....
QB carbon sell them for the sp1, no mention of them being illegal.
I've heard there can be a problem with the petrol breaking down the carbon fibre from the inside, I know of one owner that ended up putting an inline fuel filter on to catch the fibres before they got to the fuel injection....
just imagine a storm with a satin black frame and metalwork, with this fuel tank and full mario navas c/f bodywork, plus carbon wheels and end cans...... :erection:

Re. SP Probably for track use...

There was a leaky one for sale in the US which needed some work. Why not commission a craftsman to knock up an aluminium one - or just vinyl wrap a standard one in CF effect.

tbh they aren't worth the hassle, but boy do they look good....
you're probably right about track use, although the one I had on my sp was mot'd without issue, maybe the tester turned a blind eye, or wasn't aware the tank was c/f....

Marty, I've got a Carbotech tank but it's kevlar weave and not carbon as such. Carbotech are actually the same people that make the carbon monocoques for the road cars here at work, I can give you the name and contact details for the guy that made them if you want.

I asked if they would consider making some more but they have nothing left to do with them and said they are to busy anyway now and they do mainly car stuff.

I've not fitted or even looked at fitting it yet so Christ knows if I'll have any issues yet but hoping the guys at work can help me out if need be... even considered stripping it down to see if they can make a new one and use it as a mould pattern.
Why ask... sometime you just go to do it and find out?

thanks for the info mark. I would have one if they were made again, I would just want to make sure the fit and quality is up to a good standard, you're a lucky man mark.....
as for the guys details, is it worth it, as they don't intend on making any more....

They look very nice my best friend makes fibre glass fuel tanks for quite an established company but the fuel all ways ends up eating away at the inner of the tank carbon is done in a similar way and has the same faults as the gel coat will break down after a certain time.

that is a lot of money for a 20ltr tank, I understand that for the American market that only got the 16ltr tank, this is a good thing, but truly not worth it for late model owners, also the fitment will be for early model bikes, not to mention the firm listed above doesn't even offer a lacquered carbon finish, and 45 dollars for tank foam....
I love the idea but it just doesn't add up, if it was like the harris 24ltr tank, and had fitment for the later model bike, with a lacquered carbon finish, I might be tempted, but that's a dream that will never be for filled....
