suggest me an enduro

Post by callam_nffc »

So then guys ive been looking around for something i can have a go at greenlaning on lately

something under the 1500 quid mark ideally is whats needed, but i only really can think of the "big name" enduros such as crf/xt's

so any suggestions for what to look out on ebay for are appreciated, something 4 stroke is essential around 250/400 (unless you think you can convince me otherwise lol)

Callam,
why 4stroke? they are still heavier and more prone to expensive engine damage. all the big euro names are now pushing the 2 strokes again with clean running engines....... new Beta, KTM, GasGas 250 and 300 2t engines even with electric start

You already saw my GasGas200 when I did your stopper, its a great little bike and has the perfect combination of torque, traction, power, low weight, reliability and Fun. and after a full days riding you are still in control. works for Greenlaning and also for enduros

if you want a 4t, then the question is, "do you want a real enduro bike, or do you want a trail bike?"

the real enduro bikes are proper competition beasts and need much more maintenance, but are much faster and better handling / braking / lower weight / noisier ..... but they are almost too good for green laneing and you end up riding too fast to have fun.......and this leads to bad public reaction and more lane closures. :(
so your KTM exe range, the Honda CRF, The yam YZF, the GasGas & Beta bikes are in this group.

so to have more sustainable green laning you might want to use a more road orientated trail bike modified to cope with the challenges of off road.
Suzuki DRZ road spec bike or older things like Honda XRs are in this group.

lost of pros & cons, but there is no correct answer as everyone wants to do different things

Suzuki Dr 650 good. I had rs which had nose fairing. A bit heavy but other unfaired models ok. Klr 650 a good grunt machine. Both be in your price range

CCM RC 30 with the Knobbly tyres and wheels too. Great fun and a 650 Suzuki engine. Good supermoto too, WP suspension.
missing the noise, not the vibes. However never say never!

For cheap fun you cant beat a KDX200. Im 100kg and it pulls me through woods riding just fine. With a pipe and good jetting its a good match to mates on new 250 4 strokes.

Thanks for the replies chaps

The main reason I wanted 4t was reliability al, I was always under the presumption 2t cost a fortune to run/maintain (mind you I am referring to my mates rd350/rs250 here)

I think I really want a trail bike, not some competition enduro by any means

A drz400 is certainly one of the best for me ive seen yet

KDX200 2 smokes go forever. Hundreds of hours between rebuilds. And top ends are about $150 here.

But in the mean time watch this U tube channel on all the how tos for enduro.

Thank me later.

A YZ250 2 stroke will rip ya arms off

Try a 2 stroke 125, like KX RM etc, super light & cheap to rebuild.

Also they can hustle without scaring the crap out of you and nearby observers

Cheers pal, ive often noticed 125s are more expensive than 250s etc, I suppose because of our laws

had a kdx200 [the 1st water cooled one] for about 5yrs, was my 1st greenlane bike and I still regret selling it as I had it running perfectly with an FMF fatty pipe and the airbox lid removed and some boysen reeds.

only problem I had was it would eat the teeth on the little aluminium powervalve gears each side of the exhaust port.... but I made some steel replacements tha seemed to be lasting when I slod it on.
