Ohhh memories.

Used to frequent a CompSci IRC chat, whenever anyone new joined we'd google their aliases/profile info/places they said they'd been/where they said they studied etc.

Was brilliant fun, we scared a lot of people off simply because they didn't understand how we could find so much information about them. The best ones were the script kiddies who joined, we tried to convince them we'd placed a virus on their machine and that we were receiving their parents bank details and all their personal information on the machine... ( I have never claimed to be a good person/have good morals, for the record  )

I used to be quite secretive with my information but I can't be bothered anymore.. Too much effort

Anyway smarty pants the term village idiot is a phrase referring to the person not the town.

Every area has a village idiot. Apparently Rugby has the most idiotic one in the country...
Tell me about it, he's my bloody brother and i have to live with him! :(

I know what you mean. That is half the problem a lot places require details to be able use their facilities. That's the trade off...pimp ourselves to them so they can sell our details to advertising companies etc. Yeh you can get around stuff by putting total bollox in like I was born in 1900 or whatever, but then you cannot utilise the site/facilities to it's full potential or are inconvenienced in some way. What I don't like is that technology forces us in this direction as places like facepoop for example don't offer a paid premium service (so they make their buck) to remove advertisements or not sell our personal details on. It's either don't care and take the technology as it is and go with the flow or abandon the tech altogether. I personally am feeling like it's all too intrusive and controlling and feel like abandoning it all. It's not as if it makes life any easier. In fact it takes up so much time with the learning curves that most things are just a waste of time as they release something new to learn just after ones finally got their head around the last learning curve  All at our expense.

(in tune to row row your boat) roll roll roll a spliff twist it at the end, roll it up and take a puff and pass it to your friend.

It's all your fault Virt. So when are you going to start work for Apple or Microfart and sort them out so they don't rip us off with new tech :P If only there wasn't so much competition between them things could be different.

And talking about competition...we cant compete with facepoop, were far superior  There's nothing wrong with the forum and we don't need any facepoop links, likes, dislikes or whatever to start monitoring and throwing adverts at us. It will only attract more spam and bollox. The only thing I agree with is that it could do with a bit of tidying up in places. The format is fine and it woks very efficiently. Were like Apple and Facepoop is like Microfart that's the difference, we don't have to sort through crap to get what we want. We go straight from A to B not from A to Z and then work backwards back to A via Alpha and Beta (just to confuse thing's even more) and then start all over again.  Were a more specialist friendly niche market (or should that be unique) and not as common as muck with no backbone. Apple users are always willing to help each other out as it's a passion a bit like here. You will find Microfart users will generally help each other out but will hide a virus in their help or send you on a wild goose chase

As for the forum being a bit cliquey (however it's spelt) I can see why some would think that at first. Especially the way we go off topic and chat amongst ourselves. Maybe the Usergroups feature would be a nice addition here. A bit like having multiple forums within a bigger forum. Or Private messaging on a larger scale where everyone within that group can communicate together without others seeing. Something like after so many posts one gets access to another group. The only problem with these sort of things is that it requires more admin work as things expand/grow bigger which then requires more admin/moderators (staff) to keep things tip top. It starts a chain reaction as one may then want to create an admin/mod usergroup for forum running discussions only. Or imagine having a separate sales and/or ebay thread that only members with so many posts can see  or more techy secretive stuff/discussions that are not open to the public (low post members) But ask yourself do we want a divide, sections where one can discuss and talk about things with new or low post count members being left out the loop.

I'm waffling now.....need to get some sleep.

Seems ok to me

Though I agree with the comment about the search facility being a bit difficult to navigate

I think the FB pages are for lots of people easier to access as they allready have an account.
So why bother to have another account is what i hear.Besides that i must admit i find it easy to use as it is fast, but on the otherhand you get overloaded with stuff which ain't really interesting. Sometimes i withdraw from FB for a while just to get some rest :Beer Popcorn:
The VTR fb pages are less technical allthough one particular page is suggesting towards members that they have answers on all the technical issues and some of the administrators are pushing non members a lot to join the page.Really don't know why, a bit strange in fact.
For me personally i think this forum, together with the German and USA VTR forum gives the best information, the german one is however run by some bikeshop owners and therefor not really neutral, noticed that they make quite a huge profit on some parts which i find not a good thing. ( € 260,= for a set of manual tensioners )
I guess the fact that it is a bit quiet around here doesn't mean a lot, people who really want to get good info will appreciate this forum  and as Lloydie mentioned before...people are enjoying the bike as it is the season to do so.
On the FB pages some people really talk like they are very experienced technicians, but in fact they don't really know what they are talking about, that is the only negative point i have. Furtheron it's sometimes less serious (i am even part of that and i don't mind) but overall i must say i have made some good VTR friends through the fb page and due to my experiences with the VTR as well as my education(long time ago) the knowledge and the contacts i have within the motorcycle industries, i have been able to help some fb members or give them advice, or simply gave them this forum as helpdesk.
So for me the FB page is an extra and i use it also for selling VTR parts as that page is more international(read europe mainland) related and as i want to give as much people the opportunity to buy at low pricelevels( as far as i can manage without getting problems with suppliers) i joined that page as well.( i do not sell new parts overhere as it is not accepted, and i do respect that )
I do think within some years, or even earlier, another social media will start and everybody using facebook will join that, it's a way of live that is getting normal more and more, especially for younger people.
So guy's... just continue this forum and don't panic, good things never die and i am sure this forum will survive :D
