measurements please

Post by popkat »

I'm looking for the length of standard forks from the top to the centre of the spindle hole. Also the length of the stem on the bottom yoke.

I have an Idea about fitting a storm front end to my VFR as long as the forks aren't too short, the steering bearings are the same for both bikes so if the lengths work it's a slide in conversion, I'll use early 90's CBR600 wheels with speedo drive unit so I can use original clocks,

Then I'd be back to part storm ownership

I would rush down & measure mine now for you Malc...but as I'm a bit one handed at the mo it's a bit difficult.

There's a thread on here already asking the same question...ahh here...http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=34415

Apparently its a fairly standard mod for the VFR boys...but are they the same diameter on the early VFR's ?

My VFR is an early RC24, It has narrow 37mm forks and a 16" front wheel, I need to know the length of the steering stem from bottom yoke, I know the next gen RC24 yokes fit straight in and are 41mm so that's an option but wandered if the whole storm front end would fit in. I need to measure my VFR forks now to see if it's close, then measure the difference between a 16" and 17" wheel/tyre and work out if it's anywhere near close. I'm not aware of anyone doing this on an early VFR, I've heard of people fitting storm fork bottoms to Late VFR tubes presumably to improve the brakes, ironically firestorm owners fit Blade front ends to improve the brakes (amongst other things)

Malc, Bob etc....

Sorry but I forgot to do this for you, measured 225mm from top of the bottom yoke to the top of the yoke spindle.

Hope this helps.

Mark
