Chain and Sprocket s

Post by kev64 »

Thinking about replacing these as the adjuster is getting close to the end
Been quoted 220 quid by my local dealer,as I havnt got a grinder/extracter etc im thinking
this price is ok, what do you think?
Also if I was to do the job myself what C/S kit would I get and from where and roughly how much

Thanks

you can get the chain on and off a storm without cutting it, you just need to take the left hand foot rest off [which requires the swing arm spindle to be removed ] . that allows you to get the new chain riveted by a dealer and you can fit it at home saving money.

I used a DID X ring chain and steel sprockets back and front, cant remember the final price but was way better than £220

If you do it yourself put the swing arm bolt back in the other way as all you need to do next time is undo the nut and lower hanger bolt and remove the sprocket cover , much easier and faster

and you can use the rear wheel spindle to push the swing arm spindle out and keep everything from moving apart

I saw on the facebook group rob dehoo was doing a chain & sprocket kit delivered for a reasonable price. It was a top brand & some other guy commented who paid about £40 more from an online shop. Maybe worth an inquiry.
On a previous bike i had, adjusters at maximim. New chain & sprockets ordered. Just to try, took out 1 link on old set. Adjuster to midpoint. New rivet link & away. Did a couple of months then sold bike with chain & sprocket kit thrown in.

I might just buy the soft link kit off eBay , take a link out and pretend its only half worn
Great money saving idea

That's all well and good as a temporary fix, but don't forget there is only so much stretching something can do before it snaps.
