Mine like a little heat in them and then they are working at one finger level but just slugging around they need a firmer grip.

I've ordered a sp2 m/c from the usa, it will match the sp2 calipers I fitted last month, together with hel lines, asv levers, brembo pads, and motul racing fluid, oh and Armstrong wavy discs, i'm hoping for a major improvement.....

Looking for advice and thought it best to dig up this thread. I have been given the controls off a 2006 CBR1000RR Fireblade. This setup is a radial master cylinder on the brake side. The m/c has 11/16 cast in, guessing this is the piston diameter of 17mm. I am not sure of the other number as radials seem to be 19/18, 19/20 or similar. Reading through all these posts, a bigger (better) m/c is not a good idea with stock calipers. As listed on page 1, do I limit my search to the 34/32mm F4i/SP1 calipers? Or any of the RC51/929/954 calipers?

That master will work very well with standard calipers

sorry lloydie, I disagree

the bigger master will make the lever feel stiffer, but you wont get better braking performance as you have less leverage between your hand gripping the lever and the pads grabbing the rotor.
this is the same thing that the PB magazine tested and although they thought the brakes were better with the bigger M/C and a stiffer lever, the braking distance was worse.

if you fit that master you should also fit calipers with bigger pistons [F4i, blade, SP]

I ran a 2006 blade radial master with the f4i calipers and it was way to small .
On standard calipers it worked well .

interesting info Lloydie. the information that I don't have is the mechanical leverage ratio between the old axial Master Cyl and the newer radial ones.... I am making the assumption that it is the same, and that may not be valid!

I know some of the expensive master cylinders have an adjustable leverage ratio, and they use this to tune the brake feel / travel trade off

My advice, go radial mine are great and not bedding in properly yet.

Yep radial ,s are far better. I haven't even got braided hoses on mine and there just superb. However, the newer bikes have far better suspension, brakes forks as standard etc. They will always say in the mags to "Upgrade to better suspension and brakes" they want us to spend money. Remember went brakes discs weren't even drilled, we still went out in the wet but just "Clenched" more while braking

yes even though it was a long time ago, I still remember almost hitting the rear end of my brothers bike when my front solid disc brake on my Honda CB400four took time for the water to disperse before it worked
You just had to remember to calculate that into your stopping time
My excuse was, the bike was new to me and it was the first time I'd been out in the wet.
