Oh I know that feeling. I had some that had pretty much welded itself into the face of the valve so it's like metal. Tough stuff compared to how it is in the port. It just goes to show the difference in temps between the two. I expect the pressures help to impregnate the carbon into the valve face too. It's like it's fused!!

They were free moving and the faces were pitted tho a good lapping and all is well .
But my fingers are so sore now it's silly

I use a brass wire disc and clean them while they sit in the head- you can get a fair bit of pressure on them that way.
Saves sore fingers....

put them in a cup with some glycol and water and leave them overnight. That does help. When we do a de coke we put rags soaked in coolant etc and leave on the piston crowns and soak the head faces and its much easier to clean in the morning.

I'm having far too much fun putting a triple-glazed plastic roof on the hen house, using the old conservatory roof. If only the builders hadn't just ripped it off, I wouldn't have had to spend most of the day straightening it out enough to re-use.

But I'm going to end up with a superb winter rebuild area, sorry, conservatory, 6 m x 4 m with a 4m x 2m light well in the middle of the roof- plenty of light and a woodburner, sound system and 42" plasma to watch racing on out of the corner of my eye while working.

Oh, and the beer fridge, of course.


So what's annoyed me?
The cost of it all means that I won't be able to afford upgrades or beer.....

finding that the old bugger that lived here had put a piece of ordinary electric cable ( a strand from a 30 amp cooker supply) into a 15 amp fuse holder and its burnt all the bloody connections!!!! I will need to put a new RCD panel in. The garage also needs a new consumer unit.

We've cleared about 8 trees away so far. The van now fits down the side of the house and the gardens looking great.
Picking the bike up today and the new "Flip up screen" is waiting to go after delivery yesterday oh Joy. Ive missed even just seeing the bike!!!
