Tyres again? Storm 3D X-M

Post by sirch345 »

Has anyone tried out the latest tyres from Avon, the Storm 3D X-M :?:
I was going to go for the Storm 2 Ultra's, but I may skip them and go for their latest rubber. My use will be mainly for dry weather riding if at all possible

Hi mate I put these on my storm ,front was the supersport one rear was normal ,was very happy with them ,worked well wet or dry only slight thing was they needed warming up a bit ,say 5 mins before hammering thehem ,all Avons are like that as have fitted storm 2 ultras to my bmw and they're exactly the same ,good tyre for decent price.

Thanks for the info Ady
I have been using Avon Storm tyres for a good time and like yourself like them. The 3D's are meant to warm up quicker than the earlier Avon Storm tyres, so they should be okay for me, 5 mins or so is not long

The only problem I found with the 3d was I ran off the edge easy on the rear .
They gave good feed back and heated up well

What was the feeling when you did that, did the rear end just start to slide away from you gradually, or did they break away drastically once off the edge :?: Not that I'll probably get that far :)

Nice and sedate slide very controllable so I gave it more throttle :-) .
They are a flatter profile than the pr2 and both feel good .
I only changed the 3d as I got a puncture , loads of tread left so I'll repair it and use it again

I'm guessing you had worn down more than 1mm of tread from the tyre, as don't Avon give warranty cover for anything less than that used.

Thanks for the info Lloydie, very useful

Got the new front tyre fitted last week and managed to take the bike out today for a short ride. So far well impressed with the 3D  It's much better on rough road surfaces, it makes me realise the old tyre must have been far worse than I thought. The bike feels loads better to ride all round. Feed back from the front end feels better too.

Had a bit of a moment when pulling away a bit sharp-ish, it was on a hill at a T junction while turning right, the front tyre did slip, but I easily corrected it. Most likely the releasing agent still on the tyre that caused the slip, and me giving it a bit too much throttle, as still scrubbing the tyre in

You could say that Lloydie

To be fair though I have only done about 30mls so still scrubbing the tyre in, but so far well impressed

They are good and I'll fit them again . Once you've scrubed them in and got them hot you can really misbehave
