How long.......
How long.......
Basically I've taken my bike to a garage to have the linkage bearings replaced TWO WEEKS AGO! But they still haven't managed to remove the bolt that holds the linkage to the swing arm. He says he gotta use oxy acetylene to get it off.
My question to you, is this acceptable after two weeks to not have already done this. I get the feeling they don't want to do the job.
What should I do? Leave it and see how long they take or go get my bike back and take somewhere else?

Re: How long.......
Get it back and take it somewhere that wants the job .
With all the parts and a big hammer it's a few hours job .
I've done it a few times now and a big hammer is all that's needed heat helps but still it's only a few hours job .

Re: How long.......
To be fair it's a business so they may have other customers bikes that take priority but they should let you know it will take 2 weeks
Get the bike back and do the job yourself it's easy enough as long as you have a way of raising the rear end of the bike to remove the swingarm. A Big hammer, drift and maybe DIY style butane gas blowtorch is all that is needed.

Yes, but the mine detector might be overkill.
And you will need new parts, bearings, bolts etc.
It's as easy as solo synchronised swimming, but using bigger hammers.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: How long.......
Or it could be as simple as raising the rear of the bike, lifting the front and pacing some bricks under the sump (watch the exhaust pipe though) then lower down and remove lifting devices. My personal preference is an Abba stand jacked off the engine mounts.

Re: How long.......
It's not acceptable if they gave you a time when it would be done IE one week, but if they didn't give you any idea when the job would be completed, and may be you didn't askVTR-Dave2 wrote:Basically I've taken my bike to a garage to have the linkage bearings replaced TWO WEEKS AGO! Re: How long.......
Originally they said about an hour but this was without seeing the bike, my annoyance is that after two weeks they still not undone the swing arm bolt. I just can't understand why not? As from reading posts on here it should only really take a few hours maybe a day at the most
Re: How long.......
perhaps he,s doing a bit of courier work on it ??
seriously though I would get it back. if he thought it would take and hour and the wise folk on here say longer he is obviously not familiar with this task. so its going to cost you more than the initial quote
also surely when booking his work in he should know how many manhours of labour he has available on a day and schedule his bookings accordingly. if that is the case he,s never going to get round to doing it.
I tried to get some wiring work done on an old BSA I had once and the bloke had it for weeks then said it wasn't really he,s thing
cheers

I appreciate that the bill will increase just not expecting two weeks later still not near completing the job

Re: How long.......
Many years ago I had my VF750F in for a new shock. They phoned me to say they weren't sure if they would have it for me by the end of the day as they were struggling to get it off, having broken two Snap-on spanners.
Later on they phoned to say it's ok, they got it off by turning the bike upside down and using a torch.
Perhaps you need to find a garage with an imagination...
