Hi, another blooming new person here!
Love the site, lots of great threads on helpfull & topics.

Bought a VTR this week, 98 with 36000m quite high but I've
been told the vtr engine was built with granite!! :lol:
So hopefully I wont have to worry about the engine giving
up just yet.

A couple of questions,

What kind of oil should I be using?
Can I fit a lower fairing to my half faired bike? (without too much hassle)
Wheres a good place (internet) for VTR parts? (custom bodywork etc)
Thinking about getting new hi level exhaust, any suggestions?

Theres plenty more questions but that'll do for now.

Any other tips or advice on the VTR most appreciated!
(what goes wrong/what needs attention etc)

One advice. Engine is granite but one part made of plasticine :)

36000 km - first thing to do is to change Cam Chain Tensioners. It does not take too much efforts and not much money, but not doing it may end you up with messed engine.

You need to buy Honda CCT with orange dot (part number ends with -013).

Do a search here - you will find plenty of information on how to do it yourself and have peace of mind for another 30 000 km, then change it again etc. etc. until rest of engine will fall apart :) I reckon must do 300 000 km until that happens :)

And then you can start rest of upgrades.

It is easy to find lot of lower fairings for Fstorm - search for TCP (expensive), Espace Tuning (french), Pwerbronze (UK I think) or Carbon Tech ( that one only if you feel rich) :)

keep your eye on ebay as ive had a good few bargains of there:
seat cowl - £15
lucas rearsets £120
scorpion M4 titaniums - £112

+ other bits ive saved not far off a grand from rrp's.

luckily mine came with a fairing loweres but i believe powerbronze are about the best value. you may also want to get yourself a rear hugger aswell.

Got my bike back today after a long visit at the fixers (3days)
£615!!!!!!! 8O :!:

Changed front pads
Changed fork oil
Clean greasehead racers
changed brake and clutch fluid
lubricated throttle & choke cables
Changed coolant
Header tank & pipe blocked, removed, clear & refit
sat valves and clearances
balanced carboretters
removed suspension linkage and swing arm greased & refit
Removed starter motor, dismantled & replaed terminal
Adjust chain & lubriacate
change oil & filter
adjust belly pan
replae air filter

phew! :oops:

Over 10hrs labour, pads, plug & fluids!!

All I've got to do now is explain to the wife where our holiday money went!

Wish me luck! :wink:

Yep might have to treat myself to sum scorps! :twisted:

Anyway, here she is!

The carbo tech lower is actually a Sharkskinz product ....my own prefference is for the moriwaki type bellypan i think fairing lowers make the bike look FAT.....
and the Rhencullen VTR is a sweet trick piece of kit... aint it.....[fat lowers included] 8) 8) 8) 8)

Nice one mate, bike looks fab, these lowers look the biz.

I have scorpian pipes on mine and really like them, just the s/s one but they are very shiney and good quality.

Scorp cans tend to get get a name for being on the cheap end, but i am not so sure, i think its a case of most other cans are just too expensive. One of the mags did a test this month and the scorps wiped the floor with the other makes!!

That don't suprise me Slim :!: I found that once I'd fitted them how well both can's were linned up and from behind level , not like some makes :!:
