First ride, first f@ck up

Post by Stormin Ben »

Finally managed to get out on the bike for the first time this year :D

Unfortunately due to family commitments I had to spend all day looking at the beautiful warm weather from inside :?
Finally got out at 4pm :)

Had a superb blast round my local B-roads :D

Roads generally pretty clear but with the odd trail of mud from farmer Palmers field 8O

On my way back home I decided to have a quick play on a roundabout
It was about 5pm and nearly dark by this point 8O

As I was circulating a gritter lorry went past -should have taken the hint!

Went round a couple of times to check the surface and actually thought "does that look like a bit of a sheen?" but stupidly ignored it

Next time round and its clear so I gassed it to pick up enough speed for knee down
Suddenly the rear end came RIGHT round :x

However I throttled off slightly and pushed on the outside peg and it smoothly came back into line and carried on round the roundabout 8)

See that Valentino Rossi?
Thats me that is -er!! 8)

Phew!
Close one Ben.
I must admit it's a bit early in the year for Knee down stuff. I was off over to wales through the lanes today and it was all a little dodgy if you found a bit of road with shade or trees hanging over it. mind you I found a louverly parabolical out in a sunny bit which was great for getting rid of the winter chicken strips on me treads
In fact, it was so good I turned around and did it again :P

Top marks for you Ben! I'm impressed (and with man-boobs & everything! )

Just don't go making a habit out of it!!!
If you ate yourself would you become twice as big or simply disappear?

That is one hell of a save. I had a moment when the front end washed out on a worn out tyre on the SP. It is only by some miracle that i didn;t come off. Sounds like you had some of the same!!

What really impressed/ surprised me with this incident was that when I've had slides before I've shut the throttle (survival reaction #1) and its snapped back into line violently
This time it seemed to hang out for ages and came back into line really smoothly

Ooh, losing the front 8O
Thats one you only save with luck (unless its in a straight line)

I've lost it twice (so far)
First on my old GS450 it went sideways on some road repairs
I was hanging off anyway so my knee went down and that allowed it to grip again

Second going into coppice at Donnington on a Ron Haslam day CBR600 on shagged BT56's at 90+ mph. First I knew I saw a bike flying into the gravel and thought "someone's crashed"
Then I looked to my right and saw the track was 2 inches from my visor and thought "Oh, its me" [/quote]
