Fork options

Post by Roly »

Just bought another Storm 'project' (aka one that's had a nice battering at Oulton park :) ) and need forks. Ive seen an option for cbr900 forks, but not sure the advantage, and also if they will carry calipers etc.

Am I just better sticking with some VTR ones and get them rebuilt?

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Having done the cbr900rr rwu and cbr929rr usd conversions Id go with standard forks and have them sent to roger do he can work his magic on them .
Rogers forks are better than the forks from a cbr900rr and the standard 929
But remember what ever front end you stick into it you will need to respring them and service them .
The other up side to standard but rogers forks is it won't increase your insurance like the blade ones will .
That is why Id go with standard forks .
Sure the usd 929/954/04-07 look great and have better brakes but it's £800 conversion with sorting springs and valves out .

I 'think' this bike has cbr900 forks at the mo and Im not going to throw a fortune at it as Ive got 2 to upkeep

So, standard forks with 'Rogers' rebuild? How much does Rogers magic cost?

Ask Roger via email or phone from the link below, I know he's kept the prices down for us guys, but not sure what it is right now:-

Same as said above, most of the problems with std forks can be ironed out with a good custom set up from Roger, and like Lloydie said, if you take the forks off another bike, you will still need to get them set up for the storm with correct springs and damping, so it will cost to get it right.
But if you do a conversion, you will have a better set of forks in the end, and they will have both compression and rebound damping adjustment, when you only have rebound on the std ones. Plus you will have a stronger/stiffer set of yokes, as the std storm ones are fairly light weight

the other addition to std forks that will help to compensate for the rwu fork and std yokes is to add a fork brace, this helps stop the flex and improves the handling

CBR900 lower triple - up to 98 model, is the same type as used on VTR, no upgrade here.
