I have just taken delivery of new to me a 1998 VTR1000F in red which i had purchased without viewing of a well known auction site. I had a VTR1000F a few years ago having taken it in PX and enjoyed it. I sold her on as it was not what I wanted at the time but did enable me to sell my other bike. Anyway having read your site it wetted my appetite I looked for another and found one that had been standing for 10 years. I have had it taken to my local garage and the bike looks like new! Unfortunately I purchased it with a known Fuel leak from the carburetors. The mechanic has shown me the tank and on the outside it is showroom new but inside it looks like varnish and whats not varnish looks like rust!; Arrgghhhh££££! any way I am wondering if you guys can point me in the right direction for someone who can restore this tank? or know of a New one, or as new one in Red! what are your suggestions please? also does the later tanks fit straight on?
Kind Regards Derek

Hi. Guys a quick update! the carbs have now been stripped and cleaned apparently not too bad! Possibly due to vacuum system. Now no leak! All fluids changed and full service. Bike now running and sounding sweet! Hooooray! Mot failed! New number! plate now passed! Just awaiting New tank! My mechanics anal and has admitted that he is extremely impressed by the condition! He has had many museum bikes to recommission and they tend to have many problems, he said it is factory fresh underneath as on top! Still got the cct to be done then I will let you know how test ride goes! ;-) Happier New owner until I get the invoice. Derek
