Tapping
Tapping
I was wondering if anyone had the same problem as me. Basically ive just had the valve clearences done and my bike is still making a slight tapping noise, it happens mainly when youve got it stuck at 4k its not noticable when you crank it open a bit more but it dont sound as if its meant to be doing it. Its done 20k miles but has been looked after, i got the cam chains replaced along with the tensioners about 1k ago and now the valve clearences have been done. I thought it might be the carbs out of balance but dont know if this would cause the engine to tap, i think it might because one piston would be firing faster than the other if they were out of sync?? Anyway if anyone out there has any ideas please let me know.
Hi mate
Tapping could be alot of things but if the carbs are out it can be very noisey. It will sound like the top end has gone if its carbs. Also if the timing is out it could be pinking, this is more noticable under load.
Hope this info is helpful
,oh and by the way i noticed that theres hardly any body around on the forum at the moment
! just hope it gets better

before you go and get some gauges check that you have a spigot to connect to the front cylinder, you can see it on the right if you look just to the right of the inlet rubber, if if not there there is an M5 allen bolt in the hole. just order the same as there rear which is definately in as it used as a vacuum take-off for the fuel tap. If your unsure pop round and I'll take a look, PM me and I've give ya me phone number

Right ive balanced the carbs and given the bike a full service. In the last 2 weeks its had the valves adjusted, the cam timing done, oil filter, oil, sparks and a new air filter (not that an airfilter would cause it to tap) and the wombles (sorry to swear) is still tapping slightly, i think ive narrowed this down to a worn out set of clutch plates but dont know if them being worn would cause the bike to tap. I dont think its bearings because in my experience they have caused a whiring sound instead of a tapping. Anyway if someone could comment id really apreciate it as its starting to wind me up ever so slightly.
