The Cycling Ride Thread 2014
Re: The Cycling Ride Thread 2014
just noticed that since January this year I have done 2100.1miles on my pushbike.
last year I did 0.!!!!!!
last 4 months I have managed close to 300 miles/month.......... would be higher but I am too lazy to cycle to work, and the daft thing is my work commute is 5miles each way, so it is less than my weekly cycle!

Re: The Cycling Ride Thread 2014
The bike is starting to take shape
Fitted lightweight pedals, new chain, front/rear disc pads, Tyres/tubes, rear pannier rack, front bar box, speedo, lights, Phone holder.

Rear rack was a pain in the rear... as my bike has no lugs or provisions for racks etc, so found this bad boy (rated to 50kg)
:
Made a little bracket to hold my phone holder to the bars:

Weighs in at 17.5kgs at the mo, I've got a 30kg baggage allowance on my flight and 7kg hand luggage... it's going to be tight by the time I have fitted front panniers, tent, sleeping bag, cooking gear, clothes, camera equipment etc etc
Maybe I could fill the frame and innertubes with Helium?

Nice! Always fancied a racer, I like the straight laced spokes. How are you meant to pedal it home from the shop? ;)

I just thought of something quite funny. Geo has bought a bike called giant.
Blood hell Jamie taking a bike on the plane
That will limit your luggage. I thought you would have bought one while out there.

Yeah you're not kidding mate, on top of that I've got to take 1kg of sand from Brightlingsea beach for my mate..cybercarl wrote:I just thought of something quite funny. Geo has bought a bike called giant.![]()

I can't really afford to buy a bike and all the gear out there, at least this way i can sell it out there and boost my funds a bit.

Cycle to work scheme means you pay for the bike before your tax is deducted so in theory you save all that tax on your income at whatever rate you pay.
Only down side is after the lease period if 2 yrs (your company buys the bike and you lease it off them) you need to buy the bike off the company, in the 1st scheme it was a silly low value, but now the tax man has cottoned on so the final payment will be a bit higher. I should still get a 30% saving on my bike at the end
Which model is the new bike geo? Is it the defy 1?

Re: The Cycling Ride Thread 2014
Argh thanks for clarifying that. I totally misunderstood then. I though it may have been some kind of government grant/discount to encourage folk onto cycles.
