So I got this engine and needs a front cyl head rebuild after a cct failure
In the picture, the lower of the two valves has a chipped valve guide but is ok the other side where
the seals go
What do you reckon ?

Re: Cyl head Valve guide
Personally i would recommend to look for another head, the valveguides are pressed into the head and will take some good tools to replace them.
Replacing seals is not a problem.
Allthough the guides themselves aren't that expensive it will be probably cheaper / easier to replace the complete head.
You have to use good machinery to remove these and replace them.
So, if i had the choise i would look for another head.

Re: Cyl head Valve guide
I agree but as long as the guides are allright and there is no internal damage then you can clean them ends up and it will be fine as long as the stem seal ends are all good. An opportunity to do some light porting and clean up.

Re: Cyl head Valve guide
I think you're right, Carl, it's the top ends where the oil seals clip on that cannot be used if they're damaged. If the valves slip easily through the guide but aren't overly worn you'll just need to clean them up a little.
But any engine refurbishment place will fit new guides, it's usually not expensive.

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: Cyl head Valve guide
If the rest of the head is ok then fit new guides, why wouldn't you ?, there will be an engine machine shop somewhere not too far from you.
