Fitted a 6mm shim to the rear shock; was surprisingly easy to put the bike on the sidestand, then gently jack up at the right side muffler clamp until there was enough clearance between frame and shock link to slide the shim into place.

Also fitted an APE manual CCT, just to the rear head as I am still waiting on a second CCT to arrive for the front. Wish the front head was as easy to access as the back. The OEM CCT very kindly left its gasket intact/attached to the cylinder.

Make sure you put the sump plug back in before you fill it with oil .
And prime the new oil filter before fitting .
Once you've top up the oil, let it run for a few minutes and then turn it off and let it cool down .
Once cooled down ,recheck the oil level and top up if needed .
It's about time you got your hands dirty :-),

I installed an APE manual CCT on the front cylinder (to match yesterdays rear manual CCT), checked the valve timing and the valve clearances (all spot on, yahoo) and cleaned as much of the motor as I was able to access and wipe down. Then added a vacuum take-off point and hose for the front cylinder so I can do easy balancing later. I'm impressed that the service manual says you can get the front cam cover off by just removing the left rad and the oil cooler; I ended up pulling the carbs to get in there, and refitting that front cam cover is "fun". As I finished the job at 11pm I was only able to start the bike up this morning and much to my relief it all appears to together properly. I might even get a ride in this weekend!!!

Put the carbs back in and pulled the races and bearings from the front end...... should have parts tomorrow to actually put things back together :)

Had a little tinker around day today, adjusted the new chain after a 60 mile run in yesterday
and gave it a little coating of oil (ive been converted from that sticky stuff !)
Checked the TPS, recrimped the live going into the rectifier as it had settled at an angle that looked like it could eventually break,
so I rerouted that, and rechecked my charging voltage, which was good (14.4v) cut my number plate down a bit and generally faffed around till I got a bit of a thirst on,
so instead of a bike ride im going down the pub !

Its good for fine tuning in that it smooths things out and gives small adjustment but won't fix big errors.
So its kind of the last bit to add IMHO

Though no one noticed the threaded inserts in the airbox.....lol

Made those up around 10 yrs ago after I wore out the screw holes from taking it apart so many times
