I wish I never sold my 96 XR600. Bought it new and spent fortunes on it including the genuine HRC 630 kit.
Back to the storm, fitted the new Renthal front sprocket having cleaned up all around he output shaft first. Not much else to report as Im stuck waiting for parts to arrive. Should get my wheels back tomorrow tomorrow so I can get on with fitting the chain and rear sprocket hopefully.
Does everyone use the tab washer between the 2 locking nuts under the top yoke? Seems to me that if the nuts are locked together and the top yoke nut is torqued down they can't move, and for the life of me I cant get them in a position where the notches are in the right place for the tabs to engage whilst not being able to loosen the pair by hand, if that makes sense. Actually when I disassembled I did actually loosen them by hand as a pair with the washer in place-that can't be right surely?

Yep got that, it's just that to get the 2 notched nuts tight enough so they lock up and can't be undone (which is the reason for having 2 nuts I guess) there's no way that the tabs will engage into 4 notches (2 up 2 down) cos they dont line up. On a lighter note, wheels are back. rear fitted today with a lovely new Renthal sprocket and Tsubaki gold x-ring chain. The chain tool I bought (because I lost my pukka DID tool in a house move) won't rivet it though. Bloody annoying as it said in the advert that it would do 530 chain. I struggled to break the old chain with it, not because it would'nt push the roller pin through, but once the pin was through and protruding from the inner side plate only, and the chain had broken, there isn't enough clearance in the jaws to be able to remove the link due to the extra width of roller pin protruding. And you can't push the pin right out because the push pin in the tool isn't long enough. Grrr
PS I've fitted countless chains to bikes with other tools so I'm fairly confident that this workman can actually blame his tool.
PPS Even though this workman does indeed have a Teal bike...with a yellow belly pan
And to add insult to injury, the bloody chain tool won't push my rivet link together and the Tsubaki chains don't have a snap link. I don't think the cable tie I have in place at the moment will hold it.

Mole grips are your friend.
Always good as good little mini vice. Just do each pin in turn 1 mm at a time. Then I use a ball pan hammer to make a good rivet hat.

Cahin done. Just had a call from Phillpots to say that my fork tubes are chromed and coming back this week. As soon as they're here they are going to Roger for some love, then I should be able to bolt her all back together and go for an MOT. Looking good for Grainstorm!!

OK my couriers Hermes delivered the forks not to Roger, but a random location, with no signature and once found it looked like the box had been through a mangle. Roger phoned me to say he now has them, and how desperate was I to get them back. He has 2 motors for race teams to sort on the quick so we've decided that he's going to do the motors first and then my forks so I'll get them back late next week. I'd have felt bad if he'd missed a deadline for a race motor because I'd been impatient to get my forks back. so no Grainstorm for me, I'll have to meet you all at another event later in the year.

Just use two C spanners and tighten until they line up.

Getting there now!! Fired her up and all seems ok.
Under the rear of the tank there are 2 breather pipes. The thinner one has a plastic joining piece about 2 inches from the tank. Is this some sort of valve or can I dispense with it and just run open pipe...I would check but I appear to have lost it...oops.
Insurance £96 per year comp...can't be bad!!
MOT friday maybe?

PS: In the photo above, is the loom from the left switchgear supposed to go round the back of the fork stanchion?

It's in bits again...
The big pipe is the over fill pipe and must be fitted unless you want to set it on fire .
The small one is the tank breather so fit that and run it where it won't see rain . Tho you can use it without it [FACE WITH COLD SWEAT]
And the switch gear wires run inside the fork leg along the frame .
