rear tyre...size

Post by jurgen »

Hi All

Just wandering has anyone tried squeesing a 190 tyre on the rear at all? I've got a 180 on there at the min, just thought i'd try and find out if it improves the hanleing? I know my gixxer handles great and that's got a 190 on it instead of the stock 180.

Cheers

I seem to remember this from ages ago, and I think that the concensus of opinion was that the 190 fits ok but there isn't any real improvement in the handling.

I was reading the fireblade forum the other day and there was a big topic on 190 or 180 tyres. it also had an article from a well known bike mag.

Basically the bike mag said the manufactures put a 190 tyre on for the "big mans bike" effect.
When tested a 180 tyre gives the same if not beter contact patch with the road and the 180 tyre gives a better turn in.
A 190 will slow the steering down.

I also know that on the WSB grid a lot of the teams race on a 180 rear, when the road bike comes out of the factory on a 190.

Hi All
I have also heard that fitting a 190 slows the bike down i was reading this on greg nemish's vtr site some time ago. I am new to this forum and have chatted to Chris a couple of times about sssarm there seems to be alot about cct's on here my rear completley let go (theres a joke in there somewhere lol) at 14000m i had it repaired at P&D Wakefield Honda in Leeds cost £500 now at 16000m and service is due only the front needs checking and i am going to do it myself just a little unsure i have just done a mates nc30 that was easy but they are gear driven. all you end up with in layman's terms is bigger chicken strips
a m8 went down to a 180 on his r1 and said it rode better

the big change is when you change the profile of the tyre thats when it all goes pete tong

Stick to the 180 mate it will turn in better because of the profile. Its a bit like getting your knee down looks good but.....
